The 1850 Room Is Now Open in Downtown Grand Rapids
A new coffee, ‘handcrafted drinks’ and social lounge has opened in the former House of Wine space on Monroe Center in downtown Grand Rapids.
The 1850 Room is operating at 53 Monroe Center St. NW, with a concept that combines drinks, small plates and a lounge atmosphere. The business was open by Sept. 11, although GRNO has not confirmed the exact first day they can offer alcohol.
The concept comes from owner Norma Gordon, a Belmont native with more than two decades of experience in the food and beverage industry.
The name is a nod to Grand Rapids history: 1850 was the year Grand Rapids was incorporated as a city.
The space was previously home to House of Wine.
The opening also coincided with ArtPrize activity downtown, giving the new lounge immediate visibility in one of Grand Rapids’ busiest pedestrian areas.
GRNO is continuing to monitor the business for expanded hours, menu development and full alcohol-service details as the concept settles into the space.
